Good News From Genesis Twenty Four

Finding a wife for Isaac ( I would encourage you to read Genesis 24 and Ephesians 1).

God is always speaking to us through His word. However, I know as well as anyone that there are often dry periods when the word can seem dry and reads more like a newspaper. This is normal so pray and wait it out. And always trust your Father.

But this post is not dry because we will point you to see the secret of the new covenant. Which is, not seeking to find out what we should be doing but rather seeking, believing and trusting in what He has already done. There is where the focus of your faith should set. This is setting our minds on things that are above rather than the earth.

We are going to talk about what happens as the Holy Spirit selects a wife  for Issac. You will see a picture or parable of how the Holy Spirit brings light to every born again believer including you and I that we are those who make up the wife of Jesus. For the ‘church’ is the wife of Jesus! As such, because you are born again you may not realize it yet, but you are an extraordinary person.The Holy Spirit has personally drawn those who are His in Christ since before the foundation of the world and He is still very actively also gathering others into His spiritual flock. The born again church. His church which has been gathering together ever since the resurrection of Jesus and is still busy being gathered by His Spirit today.

Genes 24 begins by saying: NOW ABRAHAM was old, well advanced in years, and the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things. He must of had divine health because he takes another wife later on and he sires a couple more kids.

ABRAHAM TOOK another wife, and her name was Keturah.  And she bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.  Jokshan was the father of Sheba and Dedan. The sons of Dedan were Asshurim, Letushim, and Leummim.  The sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah.

 And Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac.  But to the sons of his concubines [Hagar and Keturah] Abraham gave gifts, and while he was still living he sent them to the east country, away from Isaac his son [of promise].

Notice that even though Abraham was good to these children, the Promise remains locked with Isaac.

Abraham has sworn (made a covenant with) his servant (The Holy Spirit) for Him to travel to the land of his (Abraham’s) family to find a wife for his son Issac.

We are going to watch this with the idea that this is all a type and shadow  of Christ. The servant we will view as the Holy Spirit as He seeks those who are the wife of Christ. Remember, Christ is the bridegroom. We, who are born again, are His wife.

A Wife for Isaac.

Now I want us to look at what follows in this way- just for a moment: Abraham is a type of our Father. The Father is searching for a wife for His Son Jesus. We begin this dialog watching the Father send His servant (The Holy Spirit). Issac is forty years old. Abraham has instructed his servant not to take a wife from the land of Canaan where they have settled. His servant goes to the land where Abraham’s family is still living.

We begin as Abraham  instructs His servant.

He will send His Angel before you, (Abraham says)and you will take a wife from there for my son. And if the woman should not be willing to go along after you, then you will be clear from this oath;

The Father is instructing the Holy Spirit (which is given only through Christ, remember, Christ always only does the will of the Father). The Father will send an angel before His servant (The Holy Spirit) and the Holy Spirit is to select a wife for Isaac  because we are watching a type of how the born again Church is formed and the Holy Spirit meets everyone of us who are His.

Only you must not take my son back there. So the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master and swore to him concerning this matter. And the servant took ten of his master’s camels and departed, taking some of all his master’s treasures with him;

Isaac (representing Jesus) is not to go back to His homeland. There will be a day when He does return, but not now, not here in this prophetic view. He has yet to return.

So, the Holy Spirit swore to the Father and took 10 camels along with some of the Father’s treasures. This type illustrates what will be given to the ones the Holy Spirit calls and draws to Christ to be born again as a down payment (of the spirit) of what we will receive in the fullness of the Kingdom of God when Christ returns.

Jesus (Issac is the type) is not to return for this. The Holy Spirit will do the selection and will draw the person to Christ. The servant (Holy Spirit) has with Him a deposit of what will be fulfilled in fullness in God’s Kingdom. Again, a down payment, if you will.

thus he journeyed to Mesopotamia [between the Tigris and the Euphrates], to the city of Nahor [Abraham’s brother]. And he made his camels to kneel down outside the city by a well of water at the time of the evening when women go out to draw water. And he said, O Lord, God of my master Abraham, I pray You, cause me to meet with good success today, and show kindness to my master Abraham. See, I stand here by the well of water, and the daughters of the men of the city are coming to draw water. And let it so be that the girl to whom I say, I pray you, let down your jar that I may drink, and she replies, Drink, and I will give your camels drink also—let her be the one whom You have selected and appointed and indicated for Your servant Isaac [to be a wife to him]; and by it I shall know that You have shown kindness and faithfulness to my master.

The Holy Spirit has been sent to a situation. Did he find you in a situation where you needed His living water because you were finished perhaps, perhaps your whole world was dry and you needed a drink of the water Jesus spoke about to the woman by the well.Often He comes when there’s no hope for you left. In any event, It was He who brought you to the distress or to whatever condition you found yourself in making you ready to receive His Son.

So the Holy Spirit askes God for conformation if you are the one He seeks. And He gets it…
